INFLUENCE OF ISLAMIC ETHICS FOR MUSLIM FULFILMENT NEED IN CONSUMER
BEHAVIOR
As a human it is a natural tendency to make ends meet. The necessities of life are things that can ensure and support the continuity of one's life. In theory needs Moslow the hierarchy of needs five-stage model includes:
1. Biological and Physiological
needs
2. Safety needs
3. Love and belongingness needs
4. Esteem needs
5. Self
Islamic etchics is a shaped of a
successful amalgamation of the Qur'anic teachings, the teachings of the Sunnah
of Muhammad,
the precedents
of Islamic
jurists. As a muslim itself, All-Qur’an has rules for guiding muslim
to fulfillment their need. This Needs fulfillment is based on two principal
according to Yusuf Qaradawi. There
are some basic norms that form the basis for the consumption of a Muslim
behaves which is spending of property in favor and away from the miserly nature
and not being excessive or mubadzir.
The focus on
needs fulfillment is the second point. A Muslim have to spend their wealth for the needs that are
beneficial and not excessive (wasteful/israf). As a Muslim is not allowed to
acquire illicit wealth, nor would he spend it on forbidden things. One gesture
that must be considered is not luxury living and extravagant. Luxury and waste can
immerse themselves in pleasure. It is
strongly opposed by Islamic teachings. This attitude will not only undermine
human persons would also damage the fabric of society. If we relate it with
Moslow therory, this point can be figure out in the first need which is
biological and psychological needs.
As a country with a population of Muslims in the world, the application of
Islamic ethics is very influential when consumers make decisions in
consumption. About 85% or approximately 200 million people in Indonesia are
Muslims. Moreover there’s a fact that Indonesia is a country with a strong
religious culture. In times of religious privileges such as Eid and the month
of pilgrimage there are several patterns of consumption. The term
consumer behavior refers to the behavior that consumers display in searching
for, purchasing, using, evauating, and disposing of products and services that
they expect wil satisfy their needs (Shchiffman and Kanuk 2010). Therefore,
there’s a necessary to learn about islamic ethics that influence muslim fulfillment
needs.
